DescriptionLake Como pick-up. Difficult to go wrong with a Galactus splash. Muth told me he was supposed to draw the full mini but there were delays with the contract with Marvel. So Muth drew and inked the first five pages of the first issue, did the layouts on the rest of the issue, to be finished by Sienkiewicz. The rest of the series was then done by Buscema (sadly his last work, I believe) and Sienkiewicz.Muth studied the layout of this splash so as to have the largest possible image of Galactus. Judging the facial expression it is pretty clear that the creature hungers! And of course impossible to miss some Kirby crackles. Marvel cosmic magic! Social/Sharing |

What's up with this guy. Never seen him smiling! Nice pick up, by the way!

I'm a big, big, fan of Muth. When the first Moonshadow series came out 1985-87, I was lucky enough to most of the splash pages from the 12 issues. Over the last (almost) 40 years, I have only let go of one. Honestly, I probably prefer his painted works (like Dracula, Moonshadow, and Meltdown - Havok and Wolverine). But I love the history behind this piece. I think it would have been such a different book is Muth had done it instead of Buscema. For me, probably much more interesting. Especially since we've all aready seen Buscema's more seminal Surfer work from the original series.

Great story behind the art! A rare privilege to witness and document true comics history. This image of Galactus is so good that you feel there is something with him we can relate to.

Beautiful splash page, and Muth is undeniably a top-tier artist, great purchase, Carlo!
I remember the miniseries very well; many years ago in Milan, I had the chance to get issue #2 signed by John Buscema!
