'Garfield' original sketch drawing by Jim Davis (11x14). Garfield is holding a heart the says, "I Love You!' As one can imagine, the majority of Garfield items are drawn by the very talented Paws staff artists and not actually Jim himself as he was spread too thin as it was. The person that sold this item to me was often purchasing Garfield artwork in the early 2000's, he wanted items that were actually drawn by the maestro himself. This is one of those drawings. What would happen is licensees would come in for meetings and they would have conversations about what they wanted to produce whether it was shirts, candles, toys or whatever. While those conversations were going on, Jim would be doodling ideas of something that would work for the license. those 'doodles' were scooped up by David aka 'Doc Boy' and later sold. The lady whose business card is included in documentation was a wonderful lady whom they had mat and sometimes frame the work of Paws. She always used acid free mats. This was then personalized by Jim to us. We never wanted the original art itself personalized but rather the mats to not affect the art. It's done in pencil. This one is the 'I Love You!' that I believe became a plush. The personalization on the mat says, "To: Ed & Michelle. Best Wishes!" Jim Davis. Ed told me that the framer lady came out to his home in Hartford City and framed a dozen drawings and some cels.
