Description

Fresh in from HeroesCon is this majestic Stingray commission by Mike Allred! Mike's clean lines and pop sensibility are on full display here! Accentuated by subtle wash for shading, it really adds an elegance to the deceptively simple style. All of this can be seen in the additional image. The main image is a print that shows off Laura Allred's colors and man, do they pop! But I knew they would. While I love Mike's work, Laura's colors really push it to the max. The sum of the parts truly is greater than the whole, making these two a dream team!

An aside: I picked up this commission from the Allreds on day 2 of HeroesCon. Mike was wearing a still suit from Dune (he was apparently dressed as Black Bolt on day 1). As I was about to walk away with my commission, I said, "One more thing, Mr. Allred. 'He is the lisan al-gaib!'" Mike laughed and complimented my pronunciation. I walked away with a big dumb grin on my face.

The flight of the Stingay breaking the plane of the water! The atmospheric pressure drop makes Stingray more powerful above than below!

Nice results on this! It's not often I feel this way, but this is one of the rare times where I prefer the colored version!

Great piece and that color does pop. I'm not sure why, but something about it (maybe the water?) reminds me a lot of a Japanese woodblock print. Congrats!

Beautiful composition and detail as we sea a surface breach more epic than Free Willy's! Allred is a master and his character design is not only spot on, but I like how he filled so much of the page with the character. Laura's colors really bring this to life. Excellent addition to the fever!
