Description

"Storia e Gloria della Dinastia dei Paperi" is an 8-episode saga written by Guido Martina and illustrated by Giovan Battista Carpi and Romano Scarpa (also, a few additional chapters were added over time by other authors), starting from ancient Egypt, the story tries to reconstruct the ancestry of the Duck family. The narration spans a very wide chronological range, focusing on the main events in the history of humanity, so there are long time jumps between one episode and another, even if in some episodes the jump is quite short.

Le Grandi Saghe reprinted all of these stories; this stunning cover by Andrea Freccero is inspired by Martina and G.B. Carpi's story "Paperin de la Scalogna e il re dell'arena", set in Spain in 1492, and first published in Topolino #753 (1970).

It's also one of the few covers that Freccero refined with colors (even though the published piece, see additional images, was digitally colored).

Absolutely fabulous cover to Le Grandi Saghe by Andrea Freccero! I love this scene of a Spanish ancestor to Donald Duck wooing a Spanish damsel reminiscent of Daisy Duck! Both characters are drawn perfectly! Love the pastel colors Andrea used, they give the art a softer, more romantic look. The whole scene is so romantic, I just hope that Donald's ancestor has a better voice than our Donald. Great pick-up, congrats!
