Description

Who is Super Goof? Goofy eats Super Goobers (peanuts) and gains incredible powers (they're similar to Superman's) and assumes the identity of Super Goof, a heroic (albeit still very clumsy) version of himself. His costume consists solely of a red union suit and a blue cape, and his nephew, Gilbert, is the only one who knows about his secret identity.

He first appeared in The Phantom Blot #2 (February 1965) by Del Connell (story) and Paul Murry (art), where he was imagining that he was a superhero. He made his first appearance as an actual superhero in Donald Duck #102 (July 1965), in the story "All's Well that Ends Awful", also by Connell and Murry.

I mentioned in another post (Super Goof sketch) that there was more about Alberto drawing Super Goof in the past... so, it looks like he illustrated a full story with the character for Topolino magazine! It was at the end of the 90s, and Francesco Artibani wrote the script... the problem is, it was never published (probably due to Alberto's style of that period being particularly extreme), and there are no visual traces to rebuild it other than Alberto's memories. He recalled the setting, the mad doctor who resembled a Tim Burton character, and fragments like that.

I thought it would have been interesting to try to partially revive that story with a commission that Alberto had to put together from his memories, and here is the gorgeous piece paying homage to that lost story: the land reclamation consortium as setting, the mad doctor busy with polluting the water, and Super Goof.
