DescriptionA few years ago, Barry Kitson began taking a suggestions list in his Facebook group. He wanted to develop his skills as a painter after working predominantly with pencils and inks for so long, so he would choose characters and subjects he liked from the list and then paint them. This sketchbook, released this year, compiles some of his favourite painted pieces. I'm admittedly not much of a sketchbook collector myself (though this one is really nice and I'm actually very glad I picked it up), but when I heard that Barry would be doing remarques on the sketchbook covers for a super good price, I saw a golden opportunity and took it.I have been wanting a Vril Dox sketch from Barry for SO long, and now I finally have one! It may be just a little remarque, but in true Kitson fashion, Barry put so much personality and detail into it, and I absolutely love it. Barry was the lead penciller on L.E.G.I.O.N., so he's drawn Vril more than anyone else has, and you can absolutely see that reflected here - Vril looks absolutely fed up with our collective nonsense, exactly as he should. I also feel as though Barry could feasibly have taken the "easy way out" and said that the printed Batman head was placed in such a way that he couldn't draw the L.E.G.I.O.N. symbol on Vril's jacket, but of course he drew it anyways. There's a criminal lack of Vril Dox sketches here on CAF, and even fewer of those are by Barry himself, so I'm very happy to be able to contribute to the numbers! Social/Sharing |

Yeah, tough to find more Kitson art on CAF when one dealer has so much of it and pricing them as if they are a travelling art gallery.

A nice remarque by Kitson and I really like how he "blends" the image into the established Batman image on the sketchbook cover. I have several remarque type examples in my own collection done on published books, I quite enjoy that as an affordable way to add an example (or in some cases, to add another example) from an artist that's tougher to get published work from.

This really was a super cost-efficient way to get an awesome custom piece from Barry in my collection! I'm very glad his remarques are so detailed and fully rendered.
