DescriptionI had been wanting to get a commission from Giorgio after first seeing the pieces he's done for Kasra. When I saw that he had a booth during Comic Art Live 11 and was taking commissions, I had to go for it.The commission process was smooth with regular communication via e-mail with Giorgio's daughter Chiara, who acts as his business manager. She handled my initial request, answered any questions I had, and sent me photos of the prelims and the final piece once it was done. When everything was complete, I received a high-res scan via e-mail which is convenient, because this piece is bigger than my scanner! It was shipped priority via FedEx from Italy and arrived in just a couple of days. Included in the package were the final painting, the second prelim (which showed the pose/composition seen in the final piece), and a surprise: a smaller, beautifully rendered painting of a xenomorph! I believe this is now the third largest piece in my Stingray collection. I like big art and I cannot lie! But I love everything about this one! The composition does such a great job of making Stingray look strong and heroic as he fights for his life against these undersea monstrosities. The color choices draw the eye to Stingray who appears as a bold figure in the otherwise cool toned depths. And then there's the detail... I asked for one of the "hyper detailed" options from Giorgio and MAN did he deliver! The big ole CHOMP taken out of Stingray's cape, the slashing of the monster up top with the trail of blood in the water, the skull and bones in the lower left hand corner, the strange castle in the background on the upper right hand side. And then there's the debris that cross the bottom border of the piece, adding dimensionality and making it seem like the bottom of the ocean is about to spill into the room! And the use of perspective; making some of the monsters small, thus putting them far into the background. The haziness that falls across the undersee mountains in the background, separating them from the rest of the image. This truly is a masterpiece. Roughly 16.5 x 22.5, ink and ecoline on thick paper. Breathtaking! Definitely the better layout with the larger stretched out pose and the serpents framing a circle around Stingray.

Alas, poor Stingray - I don't see how he's going to get out of this pickle. But at least he will be well remembered in this glorious poster-sized (and horror-movie-poster-feeling) opus. The bonus material is fantastic as well!

A visceral and dare I say majestic Stingray piece by Comolo! I really admire his work despite not having scored one myself yet, hope to fix that eventually. Really awesome to see the prelims/process pieces as well and very cool that you get to have one of those to accompany the main painted piece. And damn, that bonus Xenomorph is so cool I think it may deserve it's own unique post in your gallery. :) - congrats!

The detail and depth of the piece is astounding! Have always loved Comolo and this is one of his finest. The fact that he channeled the Xenomorph just sends this over the top.

Holy Fuck! This is too awesome. The rendering on the creatures reminds me a bit of Art Adams. Congrats!

Wow! Striking composition on this Giorgio Comolo commissiion! I love that Sting Ray is front and center as he battles the monstrous eel-like creatures! Great color choices that draw the eye right to Sting Ray. Love little details like the spray of red blood from the creature Sting Ray is battling. What a fantastic job Giorgio did on this piece! Phenomenal pick-up, congrats!
