DescriptionAnother Sal Buscema Hulk page? Yes please! I am a big fan of Sal’s early Hulk issues, and the work done on this landmark 200th issue page by Sal and a favorite inker, Joe Staton, is just tremendous! How can you not love a page with Hulk battling Iron Man, Silver Surfer, and Hercules?! That middle page image of Hulk swatting Shell-head a Surfer with the board is just perfect … Nobody Laughs at Hulk, little men! NOBODY!! 1970s pages with the Surfer are not that common, so it is great to add this to the collection. Special bonus signatures from Len Wein, Sal, and Staton is a really nice feature as well. This was my second big trade of the year and included Hulk art going both ways – not an easy task but this one worked out great (thanks JG!). My first transaction that included traded art from both sides going to a mutual hobby friend who served as middleman – which also worked out great (thanks CC!). Unfortunately, my package to the middleman was lost for a while as the shipper sent a package (that was supposed to go between 2 Midwest states) to California and then fell off the shipping tracker. No thanks to FEDEX who told me the package was lost and to file a claim. Fortunately, the package magically reappeared in transit and finally showed up. All’s well that ends well, especially in this case. Thanks again to all who helped make this deal come together. Social/Sharing |

Sal's run on this book was truly one of the most epic runs in Marvel Comics history. While it was a great ride throughout, I have to say that personally speaking (and with all due respect to the other incredible inkers) that the early issues that Joe Staton inked are my absolute favorite. I remember this 200th issue well. And congratulations on scoring such a spectacular example from it. This page is just so, so, beautiful. It's been a while since I flipped through these issues, but seeing this gem of a page just makes me want to go dig them out and enjoy them all over again (like the way you're enjoying this beauty right now). Big time congrats!

Thanks Eric! I sooo agree with you re those early Sal Hulk issues. He really seemed to pour himself into the issues as he took the mantle from Herb's long and epic run on the title. And Joe Staton's inks were the PERFECT compliment to Sal. His inks were so true to Sal's pencils and created magic (much like Joe Sinnot did later in the run). Sal was inked by so many guys over the years and many brough their own flair to his pencils (Ernie, Alfredo, Talaoc) but nobody stayed true to Sal's lines than the 2 Joes.

As you and others have said, Sal's (long) run on the Hulk was amazing. Joe Staton's inks were perfect, and really made the lines shine while adding to the fluidity of the action. And to cap this all off, issue #200 was one of their best comics in that partnership, with so many high-octane action pages and so many opponents. It was sort of like Sal's "Many Foes Has the Hulk". Perhaps I'm biased, having a page from that issue myself...

Anniversary comics pulled not punches back then! Before crossovers were so commonplace, this Hulk issue put shine on everyone that appeared and got people interested in their titles too. This is an unbelievable dream match up battle! For kids, the stakes were high to prove your favorite character's power levels to beat another kid's favorite.

Thanks! I love the classic Hulk quotes and the Marvel sound effects from this era a ton. So many good things going on with this page. I am fortunate to be able to add it.
