Description

The Fantastic Four has a new pet! To everyone in the family, it seems like a cute, harmless little pooch named Jellybean.

Everyone that is except Alicia.

I have posted pages 3 and 6.

When she first meets the dog (page 3), she of course relies on touch and feel alone, and something seems off. But just as quickly, she decides that all is well and that she is indeed in love with the dog Jellybean (pictured in the last panel -- so cute!)

But a few pages later (page 6 splash), she experiences the full-on force of the tentacled monster, even as Thing has no idea and smiles happily next to her as Alicia is enveloped ... because he still sees the pooch.

Thus begins a story that will test Alicia to her very limits, and will show just how valuable a member of the team/family she is.

No idea who Alicia is, but Ramos continues to impress with his latest work. Congrats!

Thank you for the nice comment?  But...no idea who Alicia Masters is? The blind sculptress whose stepfather is the Puppet Master?  Ben Grimm's once-girlfriend and now wife?  She was once impersonated by the Skrull Lyja, who married Johnny? She's great!!

Oops, the Puppet Master is Alicia's adoptive father, not stepfather.  Maybe I don't know who she is either haha!  But seriously, although she has been around since Fantastic Four #8, Alicia has become a much more integral member of the family since she and Ben wed.  Like Sue, she started off as the perpetual 'damsel in distress,' especially since she is blind with no powers, but over the years she has proven her mettle time and time again.  She was the one who helped stir the Silver Surfer's long dormant emotions with her beauty and spirit that led to him turning on Galactus way back in issues #49-50.   And writer Ryan North has given her some great stories during his run on FF, which I love and highly recommend.  Okay, I've gone on long enough.  Thanks again for the nice comment!

Oh, and when I first replied to your comment, I didn't mean to end my sentence "Thank you for the nice comment" with a question mark.  Just saw that... It was supposed to be an enthusiastic exclamation mark. You'd think I'd learn to never type anything without my reading glasses on.  Anyway, that's enough from me? I've blathered on enough? This is Paul signing off? Have a great week? ???? (Haha)

Sad but true.  Other than the art Adams New FF comic, I don't think I ever owned an FF comic.  No Avengers either. The only group comic I bought was X-Men. Everything else were single character books (Spidey, Superman,etc..) I was and am a Humberto fan since he burst on the scene though. Hope that's enough to appreciate this page. Cheers!

Oh yeah, you don't need to know all the FF lore to appreciate Ramos's art on this title.  I'm actually jealous!  You could start reading Fantastic Four from the beginning and everything would be brand new!  I'm kind of that way with the X-Men.  I've read issues here and there, but I have a very small concept of everything that has gone down with all those characters over the years.  So I've been buying a crapload of X-Men omnibuses, marvel masterworks, trade paperbacks and other collected editions, and I am going to start from the beginning and read it all!  Yes!  Some day soon!  Maybe next year!!

Classic Stan Lee style of irony used and Ramos really kicks it into high gear for the splash.

Sometimes when there is a new puppy in the house it really feels like they take over the entire space.

Gorgeous Ramos magic! That splash, especially, just pulls you into the story without needing a word on the page. Congrats!!

Aw, Jellybean. The cuter the dog name, the scarier the hidden monster lurking beneath!!? More excellent Ramos art, the splash looks amazing! congrats.

Okay, now that you and Duke Fleed have had your long, torrid love affair, can you explain to me why The Thing is smiling as Alicia is about to be murdered by the tentacle porn creature? You said it's because he still sees the dog, but who cares if he still sees the dog if Alicia is on the verge of death? Also, where exactly does he see the dog? I only see him the final panel of the page on the left. At least it all looks pretty cool!

Basically the monster can manipulate people's vision so that they see whatever the monster wants them to see.  So the Thing is probably seeing Alicia happily petting the dog Jellybean.  Reed explains it much better in the issue.  I didn't want to give too much away in my description in case people hadn't read the comic yet.

Okay, got it. Now get the hell back to sleep! I knew I shouldn't have left you the comment when I did, cuz I knew if I did that you'd wake up just to read and reply. 4:41 in the morning and you're checking comments on CAF? Lord have mercy....

Hahaha!  No worries.  The cat gets me up in the middle of the night EVERY NIGHT, and one of the nice things about being awake this early is that I often times have a comment from you to read.  By the way, I thought you would challenge me by saying Okay fine, but there are other senses other than sight.  There's touch and smell and sound (and taste and and seeing dead people, but they don't apply).  The monster is huge, tentacly and slimy, and wouldn't Thing hear Alicia's cries of distress? Well that's where things get real interesting.  Apparently the monster can make it so that sight overrides every other sense.  Which is why Alicia, being blind, initially senses something is wrong.  But the monster is even able to fool her...for a while.  But like I say, Reed explains it all much better and of course manages to invent a doohickey to combat the monster's powers and save the freakin' world.  Gotta love that guy.  Okay, the cat is all settled down so I'm off to bed again.  G'night!

That's crazy!  Love that transtion from the last panel of page 1 to the page 2 splash.  Congrats!

I know right?  Even though the two pages aren't sequential, they work well that way.  We start with Alicia feeling the tentacles of the monster, but then the monster exerts mental control over her so that she sees it as a cute puppy dog, then BAM!  The dog explodes back into the huge many-tentacled monster!!!  ... as the Thing stands by, smiling, cuz he still sees the dog.
