Description

Here's the last of my new batch of sketch cards by Chris Sprouse! This one is significant because usually, if you come across any Legion sketch by him, it's almost certainly going to feature one of the Legionnaires from his mid-nineties run on the Legion, with the character in their redesigned, "rebooted" costume. There are hardly any Sprouse sketches out there which feature characters from the original run of the Legion (fifties to mid eighties), but this card here is one of them! Dream Girl was never even a part of Sprouse's rebooted Legion, so here we see her in her iconic Bronze Age uniform.

He did a fantastic job with her, too! I'd love to see his takes on a bunch of other classic Legion costumes. Unlike my other cards from him, which feature characters with contrast-heavy costumes, Dreamy here has white hair and a silver costume, so this card called for a lot of linework and very little shading, while still keeping everything distinct. I love how he rendered the curls in her hair, and how he really captured the essence of her character with her expression. You could read it as flirtatious or knowingly smug, but either way she's clearly a lady who knows something you don't!

Nice end to the Sprouse Legion sketch card set you've been posting! I like how he differentiated Dream Girl and didn't lean into the contrast-heavy look of the other sketch cards (which more lined up with his own run per your description) and kept this one lighter and more sparse.
