DescriptionOld nostalgia, new nostalgia, what's the difference?I met David Nakayama at the 2008 NYCC, he was the first artist from whom I ever got a sketch (that I hope to get around to posting some day.) While he was sketching, David and I talked about the comic industry, how young he looked, how hard it is to get in, whether the child labor laws prevented him from working at Marvel, his experiences in the industry, how I thought he looked really young, and various other things. By the end, I noticed that all the apparent squiggles that he had been drawing actually came out to be a pretty decent Spidey head shot - LOL! And, while I must have been irritating the living daylights out of him asking him time and time again about whether he was over the age of 18 (he was, by a decent amount), the thing that struck me was that he was one of the nicest and most honest artists that I ever had the pleasure to meet. Also, he was so patient while he was banging out what seemed like his 2000th sketch of Spider-man (in color no less). And the other thing that I thought about was that he had to deal with people like me all day long. And he was still extraordinarily nice. After checking out his web site, I had been toying with the idea of picking up a piece by him, when this Silver Surfer / Terrax battle splash page was made available. It didn't hurt that this page was inked by Gary Martin, one of my favorite inkers. There is another more prominent collector than I who has noted that there are some great artists over there on the Marvel Adventures line. Well, if this piece is any indication, there really are. Thanks very much to great collector David Alexander aka the infinitely cool Surfer Kid Cosmic for a cosmically cool transaction. Social/Sharing |

2008 .... Aaahhhh, the good old days. That's a fantastic splash with Terrax and the Silver Surfer. I am rapidly becoming a fan of David's work. Congratulations on discovering a new artist on the rise. Cheers! N.
