Description

Like I mentioned before, I read the later issues of Moore's Swamp Thing first. So when I bought my complete run (sometime around 2003-2004) and started reading the series from 'Loose Ends', Moore's first issue, I was prepared, but just barely, for the complete assault on the senses that the series was to perpetrate (in a good way, in a good way). By the time I reached Love and Death, and slowly backtracked through the worst day in Abby's life, the last DPS, with its unbearable imagery made me drop the comic, go out for a walk and a coffee, and come back later, heartbeat slightly back to normal, to read on. And then, of course, I nearly collapsed when I realized that the lot did not include Annual 2, the conclusion to the tale. (It did, the seller had included it in the package, even though the auction description did not mention it. Thank you, Cindy)

For those who came in late, this issue was the first that was published without the Comics Code Authority - so you might say this laid the foundation of what would later become Vertigo, DC's publishing line devoted to producing mature titles free of censorship. Yup, Sandman, Preacher, Transmet, Invisibles - everything came out of Swamp Thing #29. My own little slice of history. ( Yes, I gloat, sue me)

Also, I work as a software engineer, so the words on the page ("Bugs! It had been full of bugs all the time.") resonates with my work-life in a very...uh...inexplicable way.

Congrats, Satya. This is for sure the end of a quest that's take too long. I know what this page means to you and really hope you enjoy it.

Ah, sweet irony! Life & death are indeed full of bugs at times. Moore's words combined with Bissette & Totleben's horrifically beautiful visual feast make this a very special page indeed. Congratulations!

It may be full of bugs, but your little grail here shines like a jewel. These are indeed slices of comic history. Congratulations on acquiring two great pieces!

Oh. Wow. Moore's Swamp Thing run gave me total goosebumps when I read them originally as an impressionable kid, and moments like these - moments of true terror, which had very rarely surfaced in mainstream comics up to that point - stay with me almost 30 years later. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the mark of a brilliant writer.
