DescriptionDonald looks like he is dressed for warmth but i wonder how he fared with winter temperatures often falling below minus 50 Fahrenheit, and which passed minus 70 in the record breaking winter of 1942-43. - The Alaskan Wing supported the Eleventh Air Force in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. It controlled the Alaska-Siberia Route (ALSIB) to transport airborne lend-lease aircraft and support material from the USA (Minneapolis MN and Great Falls MT) via Central and Western Canada to Fairbanks-Ladd AFB AK, where Soviet pilots collected the aircraft to fly them westward to air bases in Siberia. It also operated the transport route into Northern Canada. - Designed by the Disney Studio in the Spring of 1943. Published in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #37, Oct.1943.Social/Sharing |
