Description

Karate Kid vs. Captain America by Clayton Henry and Simon Gough

Clayton Henry has the tightest, most perfect-looking pencils I’ve ever seen. He came to my notice with Area 52 and I’ve bought almost everything he’s drawn since then. He draws gorgeous covers and excellent interiors. His backup stories in Adventure Comics featuring the Legion are my favorite work of his so far, but all of his stuff is great. Clayton’s covers featuring Captain America always show a very tough and determined Steve Rogers. So of course I chose Cap as the opponent for Clayton to draw in this Karate Kid commission. And it looks beautiful! I love how intense both characters look.

If Val Armorr underestimates Steve Rogers for even a second in this fight it could cost him a victory. Val may outclass Captain America as a fighter, but Cap is constantly studying his opponents and learning from them. Cap only needs to glimpse a weakness to take advantage of it and win. The shield might be a problem for Val at first, until he finds a way to get it out of the fight. After that I think Val SHOULD win, but there’s a lot of guys who SHOULD have beaten Cap before, and they didn’t, so who knows? Steve Rogers has a talent for winning unwinnable fights. Either way, I’d love to see this battle.

If you like this piece then please do go buy some books featuring Clayton's work in either physical or digital format.

A seemingly simple composition that slowly draws the viewer inward with the majesty of Clayton's linework and flawless artistic instincts. Man, this is very, very good!

I am loving the way you pick and choose both the opponents for Karate Kid and the artists you pick to draw them. Just a clever, fun gallery.
