Description

I always wanted to do a Brotherhood commission "guest-starring" Blade, the Vampire-Slayer. That was the easy-part. The hard part was coming up with a villain or villains that would justify having the Brotherhood step in. I considered Dracula, but he's been done to death. Then I remembered a major vampire villain from the now defunct Ultraverse: RUNE

Rune was a creation of Barry Windsor-Smith, and starred in his own title. I thought it would be interesting to have him summoned by a vampire queen. An old issue of WILDCORE gave me the one I needed, a regal blood-sucking bad lady named LILUTU. I decided to put them together as a regal yet evil couple, and there you have it.

This piece -- which was actually done in 2007 -- was drawn by the immensely talented LUKE MCDONNELL. Luke came to prominence as the penciler of such titles as JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, IRON MAN, and perhaps most notably SUICIDE SQUAD. As you can see here, he did a dynamite job, bringing the Falcon, Storm, and Triathlon to help the Daywalker take down the royal couple of vampiredom. Much thanks to Luke for the stellar work he has done for me on this and other commissions.
