Description

This eBay find (for a steal) arrived in the mail today, and I'm thrilled with it. While I've been eagerly awaiting the package, I was nevertheless surprised when I opened it up. It's a twice-up page, a detail that wasn't mentioned in the auction listing!

I was always a fan of the Golden Age of DC Comics, and while some of the characters (Iron Munro, Fury, Tsunami and the Flying Fox) depicted here are additions from the 1980s (replacing the Earth-2 Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Batman), several classic DC heroes show up. We've got Sandy the Golden Boy, the original Atom, the Star-Spangled Kid, Dan the Dyna-Mite and Wildcat!

Even better is the fact it depicts a baseball game between the Young All-Stars and their mentors, members of the All-Star Squadron. I remember this story with fondness and how it reminded me of the classic 1970s baseball showdown between DC's super-heroes and villains from DC Super Stars #10 (which I read as a reprint in DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #13).

Thanks, Lloyd. I haven't been updating the blog as much as I should have this year, but I'm trying to turn that around. I also want to write more pieces about collecting original art (there are a couple on the blog under "Features," if you want to look for them). You may have noticed I reorganized my CAF gallery, specifically taking some cues from you by setting up themed gallery rooms. Thanks for the idea!
