I picked this page up from a dealer (forget which one) at the Chicago Comic Con on the June 21-23, 1996, weekend for a fantastic price. Mike Parobeck died less than two weeks later, five days shy of his 31st birthday. What was already a great career in comics was cut short, and I feel lucky to have acquired this page.

Not only do I love Parobeck's simple, bright style, but I'm a big fan of DC's Golden Age characters. It's a shame this JSA series was cancelled after only 10 issues, because it was incredibly fun.

This page exhibits a lot of that fun, with the original Green Lantern squaring off against Guy Gardner, then a former GL using a yellow ring. I love the cartoon-inspired comedy of the ring-created weight on Guy's feet. Also, note the unconventional panel layouts Parobeck used for this page.

Thanks, Frank. I forgot to point out there are coloring notes in the left margin for the yellow and green ring constructs. Those notes didn't quite come through in the scan.
