Jim Hardy by Dick Moores, 1942, Jan. 12

Long before taking over ‘Gasoline Alley’ from Frank King in 1959, Dick Moores created the strip ‘Jim Hardy’ in 1936, later called ‘Windy and Paddles’. The daily we're seeing here is from a breathtaking sequence in which the evil dark-haired lady is trying to kill the baby boy, intending to electrocute him in the bathtub with the help of the electric fan! (obviously, the plan has to fail). Look how she is cold-bloodedly doing her job, one step after the other. You have to admire the bold and sharp and strong lines and shadows.
