Kari Suomalainen (1920-1999) was by far the most dominant, popular and acclaimed Finnish cartoonist of his era. He did editorial cartoons for Helsingin Sanomat from 1950 to 1991 and after that syndicated to the end of his life. His style came to dominate Finnish editorial cartooning. His cartoons were collected into numerous best-selling books. His originals are fairly widely available, since especially the people depicted in the cartoons liked to buy them, but the majority of his oeuvre was donated to the Visavuori museum in Valkeakoski.
