The amazing Kent Mansley posts have been flying fast and furious the last couple days but this beautiful piece might be my favorite so far. Bernet has that kind of spontaneous line quality that makes you want to draw as soon as you see it and when you marry it with superb compositions and storytelling that's a recipe for art that I could never tire of looking at. I have re-read it recently and I think it holds up really well! I would definitely give the first 5-6 issues a try. I had an interesting, very long (sorry Rick) coversation with Leonardi about how different inkers have interpreted his pencils throughout his career and while I think it's very common to hear about pencillers tightening up their work in order to exert more control Rick actually welcomes their unique interpretations. I've come to appreciate what different inkers bring to his work but to me they will always be chasing what Al Williamson brought to the table.

Wonderful page! Are the grey tones graphite? So frustrating that none of his work is available in English, I really hope someone like Fantagraphics will fix that soon. Great battle page! Tons of action and great description of the speed and power these guys are throwing. The Samnee influence is definitely strong with Tom but I feel like in this Thing series you can really see him coming into his own.

Tough to think of a better example of JLGL's work on Deadman and you would know after having so many beautiful pages in your hands to make the decision 😄 I'm always in awe of the masterful way Garcia Lopez moves figures and the reader through the page and it really highlights his incredible draftsmanship.
