I thought Joe over Gil was very interesting.  But Joe said he did not prefer Gil's style.  So Gil went back to his markers and inked himself for awhile.  Gil went on to be the top cover artist for Roy in the 70s.

Kind of a 40ish Lady Death after 2 kids.  And she wants to show that she still has it.  Not sure if that was your intent.  But that's the way I interpreted this gem of a painting.  Spectacular presentation with a different take on Lady Death.  Congrats !

Chic over Big John !!!   A classic !!

Buscema drew a great Sub Mariner.  I think Colan was still  the best, but Buscema was right there with him.  Very complimentary inks by Craig during his all too brief stint at Marvel.

This is towards the end of the great Frenz run on Thor.  When the Thunderstrike storyline started, art styles throughout the industry were heavily influenced by the Image style.  So Joe's superb brush lines were considered old school.  Even Breeding's brief run in earlier issues was an out dated style.  I vehemently disagreed at the time, and still do to this day.  The Image run in the 90s really hurt comics long term, as can be seen from the dearth of graphic novel sales from that period.

So treasure this piece in your collection.  It's a timeless gem.

Big John didn't much like Joe on his pencils.  Made Big John's art look too normal, I guess.  Of course, Big John didn't much like Ordway either, and a whole bunch of other inkers.  But, in my opinion, Joe made Byrne look much better than any other inker did.   Anyway, congrats on owning this beautiful Sinnott masterwork !

Thank you so very much.  I tried to make the piece as painterly as possible while respecting Mike's original line drawing.  Mike is terribly missed by all in the industry.

A fitting homage to Jack by the great Garcia Lopez !!

Very near the end of the 1960s magic run by Stan and Jack.  This run from FF #38 - FF #67 endowed all 23 Marvel movies with the bravura and excitement that was so much a part of the Stan and Jack run. 

But without the Joe magic, unequaled throughout his long career, the impact of these stories would have been lessened.

Watercolor and marker were cutting edge back in the 80s, so this commission is doubly impressive.  I wonder if Breeding inked this piece then Frenz added color....
