Wow, I hadn't heard about Art Nichols either, but I haven't hit any social media yet today, so that would explain why. I can't say I'm moved by the Nichols news, given he was one of the original "Let me steal money from my own fans by opening up a commission list for work I have no intention of actually doing." artists. But it's still never fun to hear this news about anyone we know in the hobby. ![]() Wow -- I guess I'm the bearer of bad news today! Yeah - Art Nichols lost a lot of fans by not delivering commissions, but it's still sad to hear that he passed away at a fairly young age. |

Ruben DaCollector said:
I loved the idea of adding extra pages, as long as they worked well. In this case, it did, making the transition between the previous and next pages less abrupt. By the way, Sam Grainger, the inker of the original story, is also credited with having inked this new page. Nice add,Ted, thanks for sharing it over a quarter of a century later! ![]() Thanks Ruben. I'm pretty sure Dave mentioned to me years ago that he inked these extra pages himself and this doesn't look like Sam Grainger's work to me. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Marvel was just lazy with the credits and didn't both mentioning the inking for the new pages. |

Crazy to hear that costs have risen that much and the color guide now costs more than when purchasing original Cockrum ink art. Great set of pages. I also enjoyed the extra additional story pages to original reprinted stories. ![]() Ha yeah -- in this case the original was inexpensive (< $100) in 1999 and for some reason the CG went for a lot on Heritage (> $100). |

Captain America 426 Cover (1994) Owner: Alberto Gonzalez Comment posted on 12/20/2024 Very cool! I don't think Dave Hoover gets the recognition he deserves. While he was drawing in the bulked up style of the time his work had its own distinctive feel and he wasn't just trying to be another Liefeld clone. |

Flash is pulling the tape to help the rest of them finish wrapping the gift! Pretty cool with them acknowledging the popularity of the New Teen Titans during the early 80's. Yes, this was signed when I got it...... I owned this back in 1994 or so..... sold it around 1999-2000 on ebay for $3,000.00..... I had a hard time getting that price believe it or not. It is cool to see it is in a nice home among a really nice collection. Congrats. ![]() Thanks. I'm just sorry I missed this when you were selling it. I bought a lot of great art from eBay in the late 90s to early 2000s and then prices shot up shortly afterwards. I paid multiple times that just a few short years later. |

I have always wondered what happened to this piece of amazing Kirby art. Nice to finally see it here on CAF. I was the owner of this art many years ago and had to sell it to pay some bills. ☹️ it is very nice to see that it has a good home. Thank you for sharing. It is great to see it again!!! Jack ![]() Thanks Jack. I got this from Albert Moy in early 2004. I'm assuming Kirby had already signed the art before you owned it. I'm sad I never got to meet him in person. |

Spectacular! How large is the artwork? Super memorable - a GEM in a Museum worthy collection of Art! ![]() This is on 70s Marvel cover stock, which is only slightly larger than modern art board -- somewhere around 11 1/4" x 17 1/3", but the art goes all the way to the edges on either side. |

I'd love to see it. This one seems to have gotten some love and all of it organic. I didn't post or promote it anywhere and it made the top viewed piece for the day. Maybe there is more appreciation for Hirschfeld than one would think. I didn't think anyone would really care either. ![]() Yeah, that's great. Maybe Broadway is popular this week due to the Wicked movie :) Mine is older, so the style is slightly different and no Ninas, but I still think it's pretty cool. |

Cool cover. The Avengers lineup in 1975 included Beast and Moondragon. I think Cap was off in his own title teaming up with the Falcon. No idea about the Pyms (or the Hulk). ![]() Good point. A fantastic piece, Ted. Let me first sday how much I appreciate someone who, like myself, has no problem making fun of the art they own when it is deserved! I agree, Giacoia did an exemplary job on inks and in some part, actually "saved" Kirby. Kirby's Iron Man, for instance, is pretty bad top to bottom. But the finished version is excellent. No sense in pointing out all the areas, you get the point. Overall it is an excellent piece and the only shocking thing is how long it took you before you posted it! ![]() Ha yeah - Iron Man, Hulk and Beast are particularly wonky in the pencil version, with Vision looking a lot like Mr. Miracle. |
