Captain America #253, Cover Owner: Ron S Comment posted on 12/16/2011 This cover was supposed to be a regular ink job but I wanted the covers for this series to look different than the others being produced at the time so I decided to make it a wash job and then have it shot with that " steel etching" filter to give it a Gothic look. When the stat came back to Marvel's offices it didn't look that good so I sat there with a single edge razor blade and proceeded to reinforce the scratches .I imagine it would be a lot easier and faster today with Photoshop. |

Thanks for the additional info, Joe. You're the best! ![]() Truth, I was completely ashamed and embarrassed by my inks on Frank ( DD and Wolverine mini-series) compared to Klaus ',he being my favorite inker. I accepted the compliment (because it would be rude not to) but I couldn't look at the work.25 years later I looked at it again and thought" Pretty good" on my part. I'm told the mini is the basis for the next Jackman movie. |

Namor inked by Joe Rubinstein Owner: Inkwell Awards Comment posted on 3/16/2011 I knew inking Joe Sinnott's pencils again ( I inked Joe actual pencils, not blue lines on the Offical Handbook of the Marvel Universe series) would be easy and hard and scarry all at the same time.Easy because the lines would be clean, clear and i very nkable, hard because I would have to raize to the occasion and muster up my best brush control and scary because it's freaking JOE SINNOTT. I sure wasn't going to try and imitate Joe's ink line because that would be a half-assed failure, but I did try to be true to the intention of the work,as I always do. I shifted the anatomy more on this piece as I understand it The figure is about 95 % pen work.. |
