Hello. I remember reading my first comics way back in 1964 when one of our neighbors brought over a box old comics that their kids had already read. I think they were mostly DCs: Mystery in Space, Strange Adventures, those types of series. Well, since then, I've been reading and collecting comics (40 years or so). Many of those old books are gone (My mother made me give some away for her church's flea market!!), although I've been able to hang on, and it some cases, reacquire some of those old comics. Since those days, the prices have gone up on both back issues and new comics, so I decide carefully which comic series to follow. Almost all of my current comics come from Westfiled Comics in Middleton WI (My wife dreads when the monthly shipment from Westfield shows up!).

As far as original art goes, I had never attended any of the major New York conventions; truthfully, I didn't know people would actually HAVE comic conventions until I graduated from college! However, during the 1980s, I would go to some local Connecticut conventions; once in a while, there was some original art for sale. A friend had worked at Sotheby's back in 1991, when the first Sotheby's Comic Book and Comic Art auction ran on December 18th. This was the first time I had seen any type of comic art catalogue, and I realized then that a lot comic art was out of my price range!! From time to time, though, I can save up a little to purchase some original art, and I really enjoy the pieces I have. 

I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Master of Science in Taxation. Eighteen years in public accounting followed by 25 plus years at the American Institute of CPAs (www.aicpa.org), followed by teaching part-time and semi-retirement. Two adult children. Original comic art is quite expensive (like most asset prices today.), so there's very little in the way of original comic art purchases today.
