DescriptionThe first Polaris cover appearance.One of the most iconic Marvel covers in existence, a format pioneered here by Jim Steranko, later to be routinely homaged by other great Marvel artists on subsequent historic covers. Jim Steranko co-created Polaris in X-Men #49, of course. And, as Sean Clarke kindly reminds me in his comment below, Jim hand-drew a brand new logo -- which was used thereafter as Marvel's X-Men cover title, for decades -- directly onto the artboard. My extreme gratitude goes to the previous owner, as well as to my Heritage colleagues Todd Hignite for flawlessly (as always) locating this masterpiece and arranging the transaction, and Joe Maddalena for his brilliant counsel and encouragement. And, of course, to Jim Steranko himself, who was and is a genius, IMO, and a delightful person, too. So proud to have this in my collection, for now. I think it belongs in the Smithsonian.
