Description

Marvel capitalized on Bucky's prominence in the Captain America movies by giving him this space opera adventure series. In this psychedelic sequence, he experiences the memories of a sleeping space babe (not a Twi'lek, but surely intended to recall one) by the name of Ventolin Xthal.

Her name is one of the many Easter Eggs embedded in the series by writer Alex Kot; Ventolin is a brand name for asthma medication albuterol, while Xthal seems like a reference to X'Hal, the favored expletive of another pun-named space princess, Koriandr of Tamaran.

Anyway, Rudy turned in many amazing watercolor double-page spreads with trippy layouts that reinforce the themes of this series. Out of the several pages available from Rudy's art agent, I chose this one because of the impressive textures on the tangled sheets. The composition of the main figure was inspired by Barry Windsor-Smith's splash page of de-powered Ororo in Uncanny X-Men #186.
