DescriptionThe Japanese Defense Force's powerful secret weapon called Super-X is locked in mortal combat with Godzilla. Unbeknownst to all, the Russians have accidentally launched a nuclear missile at Tokyo, and Professor Hayashida, the only man in the world who knows how to stop Godzilla, is at ground zero! In other words, it's a pretty typical Tuesday in Tokyo. What is not typical is that I am now the proud owner of a cover by Art "freakin'" Adams! And it's a Godzilla cover, one of his best (it is certainly, hands down, the best cover in his six-issue cover run on "Terror of Godzilla" from back in the late 90s). I had to thin out the collection considerably in order to make it happen, but, for me, it was worth it. "Terror of Godzilla" was a reprint of Kazuhisa Iwata's 1984 manga adaptation of "Gojira" (the movie was first released in the States as the heavily-edited "Godzilla 1985," but I think the current English title is "The Return of Godzilla"). Dark Horse had printed the series in its original black and white back in the 1980s with Mark A. Nelson doing the cover honors. The 90s reprint, however, was the first time the series had been printed in color, but Adams' covers were the big draw (so to speak). Nobody draws the Big G like Adams, and I think this one is a cut above all but a few of the Dark Horse covers he's done throughout the years. It was drawn on oversized paper (about 43x36cm with an image area of about 40x26cm), and I am sure I will get it framed in the not-to-distant future because a. it doesn't fit in my oversized art portfolio and b. it's just too monstrously good not to show off. I'm not going to waste too many more unnecessary words on it. Just look at it! Hell, I've been looking at it all morning, since the delivery man brought it to my door. GYAOOO! (ROAR!) There is nothing especially terrible about the Terror of Godzilla. Huge purchase!

This is so amazing! You can get lost for days in Arthur's incredible cross-hatching work on this one! Truly an exceptional example, and his Godzilla stuff rocks! Huge congrats, buddy!

It's only appropriate that it's on oversized paper cause godzilla is kinda oversized himself. Lol
Congratulations on the new piece. Hope it brings you joy for a long time.

He looks so cool coming out of the smoke like that. And yeah, the cross hatch on this is nuts!

Gorgeous, but then again that is typical for Art Adams. Great pickup. Congrats.

So awesome, big congrats! Dynamic and tons of that hatch-y AA detail on display. Really must be a sight in person being how big it is, too. AA being a big fan of Godzilla's pretty evident when you see how he showed out on this :)

Super cover! I just love the big forms in this drawing; the shading, composition, and intensity are fantastic

My wife saw this piece on Facebook, showed it to me, and said, "Now if we could only had one piece of comic art, it would be this." Trust me when I say this is high praise.

I'm pretty sure I've never gotten a compliment quite like that one before, and, considering the amazing pieces in your collection, the only reply I can think of is that I am humbled. My regards to you and your wife!

ROAR? This is already having a bad effect on you. How long before you board a plan and try and trample a Japanese city after you land?

Well, actually... (I added a photo from a Tokusatsu exhibition in 2014 just for you.)

I agree "Nobody draws the Big G like Adams". Big baddass like that has to have a lot of lines to really bring out the scale. Sugoii!
