DescriptionYou know you've reached a summit in comic collecting when your favorite comic artist has immortalized you in original art. After a fantastic OAX 2024, when my wife Sheri and I got to meet Manix, Meryl, and Ulan, I was lucky enough to host them at our home. Sheri was off in NYC (which is why she's on a plane) and "the girl who gave me money" refers to the $5 art commission that Ulan sold her at OAX, which I believe is the first piece Ulan sold (her prices are ridiculous now, I wish I could get an Ulan for $5 these days). Kin and I spent the day with Manix and family, showing them all the important sights of Chicago - Walker Bros. Pancake House, the Home Alone house, the "Bean" (Cloud Gate) in Chicago, and downtown in winter. We also perused some of my art collection including a few Manix framed pieces on the walls. Naturally, Ulan was a joy every single moment, and insisted on balloon animals (which I was happy to oblige) and riding on "Tito Josh's" shoulders (tito is uncle). As you can see from Manix's spot-on rendering, I was having the time of my life, while Kin and Meryl are laughing their butts off. And if you look closely, Manix is reading his own signed copy of "Super A-- Hole" which he called "the greatest book in my collection" (his words). I'm very grateful that after our visit Manix sent this to commemorate winter of 2024, in Orlando and Chicago, a time that will live in infamy. Social/Sharing |

This is just the best! Done in friendship and gratitude. I don't think many artists would do something this personal.

Josh, this is an amazing piece on so many fronts, but the highlight has to be the fact that you have been immortalized!

Precious! The memory will be treasured as much as the art.

So bizarre to see ourselves in a Manix piece, but this is a lovely piece to cap off/commemorate a lovely day.
