Florence Scovel Shinn Illo

Florence Scovel Shinn (1876-1953) is best known for writing some wildly popular self help books starting with The Game of Live and How to Play It that were laden with homilies about the power of positive thinking and spirituality in a way that was particularly fashionable in the 1920's. Even today, her books are still in print and she has a devoted following. She was married to Ashcan School of Art icon (one of "The Eight"), Everett Shin, during his greatest years of growth as an artist (1898-1912). Very few of her illustrations can be found online though she certainly was capable, witness this piece. Her career as an illustrator is largely ignored in her capsule biographies.
