Description
I started buying comic in the year they went from .20 cents to a quarter. Most of my first 10 books were .25 cents and where stamped Sept. or Oct. (1973). This is the cover to one of first 10 comics. Timing is everything~ finally decided to give Heritage a try, didn't turn out well (for me but there are some fortunate buyers out there) but it did afforded me the ability to buy this. What is this? Only the 1st Defenders issue I ever bought and read. Possibly the single most coveted cover I'd want from the Defenders. Gil Kane magic and a treasured piece of my youth. Thanks for working with me Mike. I had page one but sold it when I needed cash. Was always regretting that move and now I don't need to.

I'm with you on this one Kirk. It wasn't the first Defenders issue I ever read, but Kane was the very first artist who's artwork I learned to recognize and identify on site. Plus the fact that the Defenders are my favorite group. Color me jealous buddy! And congratulations!

Congrats Kirk! Always nice to find your grail/first cover of an issue! I can relate to your Heritage tale, I too finally gave them a key piece of mine on consignment and to say the final results were disappointing is an understatement! Enjoy your Amazing cover!

Congratulations. Strangely enough I also have a Heritage related story. This piece went up on Burkey's site and I was considering making a move on it but was also tracking a a few pieces on Heritage. My thinking was if I struck out at Heritage this would be a nice piece to pick up instead. I ended up winning something in Heritage so had to give this piece a pass. I'm glad it endede up with someone who I am sure will love it a lot more than I would.

This is a great cover! It was always one of my favorites - one of those "lost" Brotherhood of Evil Mutants stories that no one seemed to know about but had a huge impact on X-Men continuity. Love the layout too, just a great cover idea from a great artist.

Oh my! This may be my favorite of your Defenders covers! Superb scene expertly composed by Gil Kane. Lush inks by John Romita. What's not to love?
