DescriptionFlashback March 2001 Megacon Orlando; Hero Initiative, or ACTOR as it was known then, helped me set this commission up with John Sr. who was attending the show with his beautiful wife, Virginia. I requested this exact layout with the floating heads as a nod to days gone by at Marvel. July 2001, John calls from vacation to my house to inform me, he had basically chained Jr. down to do his part and it wouldn't be much longer.Move ahead few years later; strapped for cash, I parted with this beauty to Mike Burkey, for at the time, a reasonable price given the size and what I had paid to ACTOR. Chicago Wizard Con near end of the decade (2008-9) saw this on display at a booth owned by a gent for $1200. Thought long and hard then about purchasing it back, but couldn't swing the funds. Soooo, lost opportunity, and I moved on. Then last year/ earlier this year I saw it posted here on a site and couldn't believe it. But the person didn't seem too interested in selling, or at least it seemed to me. Last week, Jim D had it posted in his CAF for sale and I couldn't emeial him fast enough to try and make an offer. We emailed a few times, and were able to work something out, (great guy to deal with too, by the way) and lo and behold, today I am reunited with my old friend! I will be so happy to reframe this and hang it proudly on my wall again. Huge thanks goes out to Jim D. Social/Sharing |

G-R-A-I-LAri, it was to me then, and has been for a while. Just knowing it was out there, and in the back of my mind regretting ever parting with it...made it a grail for me!

My favorite character with some of my favorite classic villains! Really nice father & son collaboration! Congrats on getting it back!

A great piece on many levels: the art itself, the artist pairing, the nostalgia, and re-finding the piece.
