Description

The more eagle-eyed among you might notice that this piece is somewhat similiar to another commission in my gallery entitled "Will Fight Super-Villains For Food," which was drawn by the great Sergio Cariello. This is an updated version of that piece, this time drawn by incredibly talented Mitch Ballard. Since the original was done, there have been more minor characters that have come to my attention that weren't on my radar the first time around. I rectified that be incorporating them into this piece, along with most of the characters that initially appeared. Both of these covers were inspired by the cover of AVENGERS #211, drawn by Gene Colan.

I thought it would be neat to have the Brotherhood taken by surprise by a bunch of obscure heroes showing up on their doorstep hoping to join the team. Since I'm betting most of you here have no idea who most or all of these characters are walking into the room, let me take the opportunity to introduce you.

(left to right)--

Star (a recurring character from SAVAGE DRAGON that had his own 4-issue limited series once);

Sentinel (a former member of YOUNGBLOOD);

Bumblebee (former Teen Titans member);

Omega Man (flying above, had a one-shot issue);

Riot (a super-speedster, a recurring character in the early SUPREME series);

Moe Muscle (a bit player from SAVAGE DRAGON0;

Vox (caped guy in the front of the pack, aka Mal Duncan formerly of the Teen Titans);

Big Masai (giant guy in the back, appeared in Jack Kirby's SILVER STAR series);

Ebony Warrior (starred in 2 issues of his own title published by the short-lived Ania Comics);

Chapel (former member of YOUNGBLOOD);

Rapture (former regular supporting character from SAVAGE DRAGON);

Heru, Son of Ausar (starred in one single issue of his own title published by the short-lived Ania Comics line).

Many of the characters here go on to join the group of disgruntled super-heroes turned super-villains I call ANIA Nation.

This was my first time commissioning the magnificent MITCH BALLARD! Mitch is very affordably priced and turned this one around in a few weeks. He's even going to ink it himself. An amazing job that had my jaw dropping the first time I saw it. Count on more Mitch Ballard magic appearing in my galleries.

Ballard, eh? Yes, good stuff. Vox's costume is kind of cool.

I don't see how a piece commissions by DAMON OWENS and drawn by MITCH BALLARD with both mainstream and obscure characters should have the letter "D" in it; I'd say this was A-list talent for an A-list collector and it is an A+ piece!

I recognized most of the characters right away, and I think you're the first person ever to get a commission with Big Masai in it! Can't wait to see the inks!

Travis, I am IMPRESSED that you know most of these characters, and yes, I'm pretty sure I'm the first, not to mention ONLY person to ever commission a piece featuring Big Masai.:-)

Once again, Mitch's got characters looking better in a single piece than in their entire original run (looking at you Sentinel). And, honestly, I'd've said that that was Wargod from Chimaera before Heru, Son of Ausar. There's a team-up for you to do :) Wargod and Heru vs. ... ... the Living Monolith?

Great to see you have jumped on the Ballard Bandwagon Damon! This great piece will be that more awesome after Mitch inks it.( I'm ashamed to say I could only recognize half of those heroes). Congrats brother!

Love it-especially Mal Duncan and Bumblebee. Mitch Ballard channelled Kirby with Big Masai.
