Description

I met Sanya Anwar at Big Wow 2013. Although previously unfamiliar with her work, I immediately gravitated toward some beautiful pieces she had drawn in an Art Nouveau style. I'm a huge Alphonse Mucha fan, so I knew right away that I wanted Sanya to create something for me in that style.

Some time later, I contacted Sanya via email and set up this commission. Because Sanya's best-known work is her self-published comic 1001 -- an Arabian Nights-inspired fantasy set in the Middle East -- I thought Isis would be a good fit. Indeed she was.

Sanya's a talented penciler, but her inking is equally impressive. The scan really can't do justice to the super-clean lines and smooth, rich blacks in this piece. And yes, I notice little details like that.

A rising-star artist to watch for.
