Description

Religious illustration for Christian Herald Magazine
Gouache on board 1950's - 27 x 19 inches

Zingaro was a master painter who worked both in the pulps and religious magazines.
Pretty much dividing his time between religious work and pin up girl's - kinda' crazy when you think about it.
But then again - rent is always the same.

Unlike a lot of artists of the time he signed all his work using his real name and did not use pseudonyms.

I'm not generally into religious art, but I still feel compelled to comment on how well illustrated this is. And you're right, what an interesting irony that he was simultaneously working for pulps and religious magazines! By the way, I think you mean "...did not use pseudonyms."

Yup that's what I meant - thanks. ; ) Yeah, I'm a bit surprised myself that I actually got this. Not a big fan of religious art in general. But it is just so well done it's crazy. A lot of great artists did this kind of work too though. If I stumbled on a religious Andrew Loomis painting I'd jump on that too in a second. The funny thing with Zingaro's religious art is that often his women depicted in those scenes are just a little bit too hot for the subject matter. Not in this case (sadly) but I do think it's funny that he just couldn't help himself.
