Description
Normally, the presence of stats on a page of artwork is not good news to collectors. In Krigstein's case, I'll make an exception. One of a handful of geniuses of the artform, Bernie experimented with repetition and panel design to explore timing, speed and dynamics in the action he depicted, and pioneered a sophisticated approach to pacing which really hasn't been surpassed in the intervening decades.

"I wanted panels. I was desperate for panels. And this is what they didn't give me, so, out of desperation, I began subdividing the panels. The point came to where it was simply absurd to have six panels for a certain amount of text. I began to see twelve panels, eighteen panels, in the same amount of text. I began to see people doing all sorts of things, and it became just ridiculous to have them doing all this stuff in six panels... because it's what happens BETWEEN these panels that's so fascinating. Look at all the dramatic action that one never gets a chance to see. Unless the artist would be permitted to delve into that, the form must remain infantile." ~ Bernard Krigstein

Awesome piece of comic history!  Kriegstein was a crucial figure in the development of the artform.  Love the storytelling in this and of course the faces, backgrounds, etc. are unmistakably from the hand of BK
