Description
This strip is amazing (and massive) in person!

From the heritage auction description:
Dale Messick Brenda Starr Sunday Comic Strip Hand Colored Original Art (Chicago Tribune, 1944). A great WWII-era example of a Sunday Brenda Starr, with color added by Dale Messick. Ink, graphite, and watercolor on Bristol board, with an image area measuring 27.5" x 12.25"

I am in search of Ethel Hays art. Top dollar paid!

Also looking for nice Nell Brinkley mostly pre 1930 work.

That's a first rate Starr. I think Messick is a terrific colorist also. It looks as If it's in mint condition. Congratulations.

There just aren't enough female artists. Sure, there are more today than there were in the past, but it's still fewer than there are male artists. Women bring a different sensiblity to comics, and a good example of that is Brenda Starr, a comic strip started in 1940 about a woman reporter. Drawn by Dale Messick, Brenda Starr had adventures and relationships very different from the ones in comic strips by men. Compare this strip to a Terrry and the Pirates strip and you'll notice the difference. Anyway, this is a terrific example of Dale Messick's work. Great pick-up, congrats!
