To say that this is an important piece for me, would be an understatement.
This is an homage to Rodolfo Cimino, published a few years ago on a book that the users of Papersera (probably the most important Disney Forum in Italy) realized to celebrate one of the biggest Italian Disney comic books Masters, a poet that, for many decades, graced us, Disney readers, with some of the most beautiful stories ever told.
The author of the illustration is Stefano Intini, who chose "Zio Paperone L'isola Gialla e il Venerdì Nero", a story written by Cimino that he magnificently illustrated , published on Topolino (Mickey Mouse magazine) #2247 in 1998, as the subject.
When I first had the chance to take a look at this illustration, I was mesmerized.
There's no need to tell you how much I love Stefano's artwork, and this illustration clearly shows his outstanding skills, from the tight and detailed pencil work (that doesn't seem to need any ink) to the magnificent composition. His rendition of the Disney characters is just amazing and you only need to take a look at their expressions and gestures to, at the very least, start smiling. Most of the time, you'll be grinning widely or openly and loudly bursting into laughter ^_^
It's not easy to explain, but Stefano's work always resonates with me... you can easily feel how much he loves these characters and gives them life, on paper, like he's only, simply, taking pictures of them while they're busy living their endless incredible adventures!!!
Having said that, you can maybe imagine how I felt when I had the original art in my hands. Still can't fully believe it.
