Description

In September 2002, my wife asked me what art I wanted for my birthday. Always a tough call, especially if there's no Jeff Moy stuff lurking about that I've been eyeing. So I started thinking. Pondering. Mulling. Contemplating. Then I saw a dutch auction for commissions from sometime JSA artist Buzz, so I told her to shoot for that - I'd been wanting some art from him for a while, and this way I'd get what I wanted. We barely got onto the list, being like #10 of 10 or something, and I told her to tell him I wanted a Hawkgirl in flight, and provided a very crude sketch of what I had in mind. And I think she's utterly magnificent, a thousand times better than what I was expecting! He took my basic idea and tweaked her pose, improving her substantially. I finally met Buzz at Wizard World Dallas 2005 and wow, he is just the nicest guy in person. I've got him working on a "companion" piece to this one - the Shayera Thal Hawkwoman from the 1990s HAWKWORLD/HAWKMAN comics; the layout that he has shown me is just spectacular and I'm dying to see the finished product. This was done in pencil and ink on 11x17 DC stock Bristol.
