DescriptionI don't really post on here very often these days but with the sad news this week I thought I should post this. Since he did the original coloring on AF 15 I asked him to do the alternate Steve Ditko cover in the way he might have done it back when it was published. This is a black and white print which he painted with dyes. The image is 11 X 17 on larger board and he told me he had never worked on this before. While this is not art related to the original publishing, it is amazing to have anything related to this book from one of the original creators.I got in touch with Mr. Goldberg through his son on his site. I had bought some Archie pages and I just wanted to make sure they hadn't been stolen from him or that he never got them back. The art was fine and I asked him to do some commissions for me. I spoke to him over the phone with some very long conversations. It was great to hear some of his stories and with me he spoke very highly of Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. I had to print this off on board and send it to him. The plan was to get him to do the same with the original cover and a few others like FF 1, Hulk 1. Before it got there he had that bad car accident with his wife. His son offered to send it back with the money but I said he could do it whenever he got better. Understandably it took some time. I got this back from him this spring 2014. He has signed the back also as the original colorist of AF 15. I was sorry to hear the news I have to say speaking to him I felt he was pretty happy and I think he had a full life. He was really smart, alert and very polite. Still working and talking about jobs he was planning on. It was a great pleasure for me to speak to him and he was easy to talk to. I don't know if this is one of the last pieces he worked on( I hope not.) He told me he really really enjoyed working on this and it helped him get back on track after his accident. He told me he really had a lot fun with it. I think that if you knew him you would know that maybe he would be the kind of person to say that to everyone. Thanks Mr. Goldberg and I hope your family and friends are holding up well. Social/Sharing |

Very nice and a great story. Sad but Stan G was loved by many and well regarded. A real industry great.
