Description

2/3 page to the 1970 story "Surprise Party" which was both written and drawn by Joe Kubert -- Sgt. Rock and Easy Company set out on a nighttime raid, secreting themselves across a moonlit river. Little do they suspect that a group of Nazi frogmen lie in wait. Clear and concise storytelling with great use of shadows and looming danger. The second to last panel mirrors the cover, with Rock and Easy Co. in the raft and menacing Nazi frogmen lurking underwater.

Love Kubert's War stuff, I actually had my eye on this page and fell asleep at the wheel when it was going off ;)

This is actually a favorite of mine. Every panel has so much Kubert goodness to absorb! I came so so so close to snagging this one before it went to auction.
