I've long wanted to add a "Doc" Bright page to my collection, and I got the chance recently when I won this page on eBay. From his work on Iron Man for Marvel and Green Lantern for DC, I've long been a fan of his work, going back to the 1980s. Of course, the pinnacle of his career, creatively speaking, had to be Quantum & Woody. That lesser-known super-hero title from Acclaim/Valiant in the 1990s was beloved by its small but dedicated audience, a select group to which I belonged.

One could argue the empty panels at the bottom make it a lesser page (certainly an affordable one), but those stat panels are just used to repeat the panel before them. Those beats in Quantum & Woody served as one of many great sources of humor in the series, and I see this as a chance to get a glimpse at Bright's process (and, no doubt, the directions writer Priest offered in his script).

This scene comes from a story arc in which the titular characters -- the grim, driven Quantum and the goofball Woody -- pulled a Freaky Friday and switched bodies. In any other book, it might have seemed like jump-the-shark plotting, but as memory serves, it allowed the creators to further explore issues of race that were always at the heart of the title, not to mention even more opportunities for comedy.
