Back in August 1xRUN sold a print run of Joanne Nam's painting "Shady". Along with the prints they also sold some of Joanne's beautiful drawings. I was lucky enough to snag one of the drawings. The piece was supposed to have arrived around mid October but when it hadn't arrived by the end of October I began trying to get in contact with 1xRUN about it. It took almost 3 weeks before I was able to get an actual response from them and even then I had to resort to contacting them via twitter since they must have been having problems with their email. After waiting over a week for them to find out what happened I was informed that the inventory team had misplaced the art so it had never shipped. It would have been nice if they would have let me known about it sooner but on December 4th they finally refunded me for the piece and gave me a decent credit for the inconvenience.

Well I still wanted a piece by Joanne so I decided to email her and tell her what had happened since I wanted the money to end up with her. We began discussing the possibility of commissioning a Kimono Girl piece and she seemed very excited to take it on. Then I didn't hear anything at all. I figured she just had too many other things on her plate at the time and since it was around the holidays she would email me when she was ready to take it on. Well after not hearing anything for over a month and a half I decided to send her another email and see what was going on since I figured something must be up. She said she must have missed the email and just assumed the commission was canceled. Needless to say she was still very excited about doing the piece so we worked out the details and I mailed her the deposit. I gave her as much time as she needed since I don't like to rush the artists I commission. After a month of working off and on on the piece between other paintings it was finished. I have to say it was real pleasure commissioning the piece from Joanne. She kept me informed with what was going on the entire time and she is so sweet. I'll definitely be purchasing a painting from her sometime in the future.

What Joanne came up with is just magnificent. I knew she would come up with a breathtaking piece but I never imagined it would turn out like it did. I don't have just one but two absolutely stunning kimono girls in the same piece. Her work is always so emotional and I love how she decided on using the Japanese samurai as the detail on the kimono. To top it all off she did it in a Japanese style. I would have never thought of including that as the detail but it really does work for the piece and you can tell she put a lot of thought into it before she added it. She could have just as easily put flowers on it like most of the kimono girl commissions I have had done but she wanted the piece to be special and unlike any of the others. The piece definitely stands out among the rest. I really think she has raised the bar for Kimono Girl commissions.
