This is the original final drawing in ink and watercolor by Hal Forrest for the Tailspin Tommy Sunday comic strip episode that was published in newspapers on September 4, 1932. Mr. Forrest watercolored the Sunday pages of the first couple of years as a guide to the engravers. This installment is set at Three-Point Airfield; Sketer test-flies a new scout plane and lands at the field while Tommy Tompkins and Betty converse on the ground. This original is from the sequence in which Betty's uncle flies a dirigible to the North Pole.

The completely hand-drawn and -lettered Progress of Flight feature at top depicts Hubert Lathan and his unsuccessful attempt 1909 attempt to fly across the English Channel. The title at top is also hand-drawn.

Hal Forrest created the popular comic strip in 1928, and for much of its 14-year run it was America's top aviation-adventure comic strip. This original is signed "Hal Forrest" by the artist in the last panel.
