this is a great "memory" for me! one of my favourite Batman tales when I was a child! in case you want let it go for any reason you know who call! ;)
Jaw-dropping! What a splendid splash title page from one of the best Batman stories ever! I love that this splash echoes the cover as the story begins. Using Batman's silhouette as a panel outline is such a brilliant idea! So happy that you own this! Thanks for sharing!
My first introduction to Irv Novick was in The Joker # 6, where the Joker fought the actor who thought he was Sherlock Holmes. When I next encountered Irv Novick, I also was introduced to Dick Giordano, Neal Adams and Bernie Wrightson in 1978's Limited Collector's Edition: Batman's Strangest Cases. Wow!, was that an awesome awakening. From that day on, I felt the definitive Batman artists were Irv Novick, Dick Giordano and Neal Adams, in that order. There have been several awesome Batman artists, but those three remain at the top for me.
When you look at this iconic splash page, it's a no-brainer as to why Giordano is in my top three, and may cause you to wonder why he is #2 after Novick. A worthwhile question. It may be tied to the fact that my purchasing The Joker #6 is also tied to a special childhood memory, involving a special day out with my older sister and her boyfriend, and I had to borrow a nickel from him to pay the sales tax, because I only had a quarter, but Irv Novick's art was really awesome too, and so was Dick Giordano's.
You are so lucky to own this masterpiece. Just looking at that profile gives me goosebumps.
