DescriptionFantastic unpublished cover for Robin #10. This was the Zero Hour issue of Robin from 1994 so both Tim Drake and Dick Grayson make an appearance on this one.Though I think the published cover was also excellent, it's a shame this was never used. Such a great image. Social/Sharing |

Awesome Grummett cover ! I think I actually like this a bit more than the published version (which I agree is fantastic as well).

Superb work, and I'm torn as to which I would prefer to have seen the actual cover.

It's a very cool cover, but the poses are a little stiff and boring, hence the decision to ask tom for a new one. The published one has a very dynamic looking layout, so the editors made the right choice. But as far as covers that don't make the cut go, this is a great little gem!

Hah! No, but I've always studied art and have been very deeply interested in the artistic side of comics and in how everything is done behind the scenes in this industry, so I've had a very good understanding of how and why covers go unpublished, typically due to what the editors are looking for and expecting, for a very long time. They do indeed get paid again if they are asked to redraw something. Oh, and so fun to receive a reply to a seven and a half year old comment! 🙂 👍

I see, thanks so much for sharing! It's fun to learn what goes on bts in comics. Hope you don't mind the reply, I'm back to CAF after nearly 8 years so I'm exploring a lot.

You're welcome. Of course I don't mind the reply. I've always viewed the comments section as a place where collectors can interact with one another as well as comment on the art. Most pieces that were posted years ago rarely get commented on because most people don't have time to go back and look at it, so as I said in my earlier comment, it's cool to see someone reply to one from so long ago. Welcome back to CAF!

I completely agree with you, perhaps it was different years ago but I feel like people barely even comment on the art these days, let alone talk to each other. I'm mostly searching by characters so that's how I'm finding all of these amazing pieces that were posted ages ago. Thanks so much!
