Description

"Duckenstein" is the last and final chapter in the Disney gothic horror trilogy (after Dracula and Ratkyll) by Bruno Enna and Fabio Celoni.

Inspired by Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", it presented a great challenge to the authors since there are things in the novel that cannot be used in a Disney story on Topolino magazine (e.g. a creature created by using corpses), but ultimately they find a way to make everything work: Victor von Duckenstein (Donald Duck) creates Growl, the creature, by using cartons thus resulting in an "animated cartoon".

The authors then amazingly play with the concept of creation (both in life and Art) and creator... not exactly Mary Shelley's theme (showing human people's arrogance challenging God in creating life) but the themes of diversity and artistic creation are similarly very deep and profound.

This big (it's on a full A3) and magnificent "sketch" shows the creature (Growl) keeping the creator (Victor) firmly in his hand and shouting at him "Draw!".
Fantastic.

(you know I love Fabio's pencil work as much as his inked pieces)
