Description

Got this from Brett B as he likes to be known on the site.Have included a photo of how my cat Jack helps in taking photos of artwork!!!Copied Bretts description below as cannot better it.

This is such a cool piece! Written and laid out by cartoonist C.W. Kahles, Dan Smith came in and finished it with his ink magic! Compared to my "Jael" piece in which the drybrush inking is dark and imposing given the subject matter of murder, the ink on this one is light and humorous which is fitting of the funny animal comic it was. However, it still shows an artist in control of his brush making those bristles behave exactly as he wants them to. Smith was very prolific and did book illustrations and World War I posters as well as his work in comic strips. This is a large 19" x 21" from around 1910. If I can ever find a published picture of it, I'll add it in the additional images here.

***Oh yes, I love the sign behind Mr. Fox in the first panel as well stating his store sells "All kinds of dope"! Times have changed but certain meanings stay the same

Hmmm. A hippo with weight issues or a saucy desert wench? Let me ponder which is more appealing to the eye.
