Description
When I was a 8-12 years old the only thing that held my attention like comic books did was Dungeons & Dragons. So much of that interest was due to the wonderful artwork including in many of those early modules and sourcebooks. The biggest influence, for me, was the 1980 release of "Deities & Demigods". All those pantheons, and Gods and Heroes, it was the kind of thing that could really spark the imagination.

TSR employed some of the very best fantasy artists on the planet. One of my favorites is Jeff Dee. His work graced module covers and interiors and several of everyone's favorite Deities and Demigods entries. Jeff created most of the Norse Gods with images that really stuck with fans for the last 35+ years.

I was able to get in touch with Jeff and proposed some commission ideas that melded the Trophy Wall theme with his landmark Deities & Demigods works. This Norse-Themed, Loki piece was one of the resulting pieces (more to come).

It's Loki's Trophy Room, with an ornate tapestry on the wall behind him featuring Balder, Thor, Frey, Odin and Heimdall. Seems innocent enough, until you see Thor's hammer, Frey's Sword, Odin's Spear and Heimdall's Horn resting all around the background of the room.

Freya, out of necessity or perhaps desire, sits at Loki's side....who looks pretty unhappy that he doesn't have anyone to mess with any more.

I love Jeff's work and he nailed the theme in a gorgeous 14"'x18" pencil, ink and gray tone piece.
I've also. mocked up the piece into how it would look if it had graced the front of one of those classic early-80's D&D modules, it is in the additional images.
