Description
Like most kids of the 70's and 80's Dungeons and Dragons made a HUGE impact on my childhood years. All those great images and artwork and fantasy settings really sparked the imagination. In 1980 Deities & Demigods was released, 17 Pantheons, of Gods, Heroes, Demi-Gods and Demons across racial, religious, and geographic lines. They spanned thousands of years and gave depth and gravity to a game that sometimes felt like it was occurring on a different planet and made it all feel tied together.

Jeff Dee contributed a great deal to this experience, his artwork adorned several of the mythos including in that source book. He created the look of many of the Egyptian mythological gods and they were brilliant. When the opportunity arose to have Jeff create a new piece that reflected back onto his work in Deities & Demigods I jumped at the chance.

Set in the lair (tomb, crypt, temple, whatever) of Set (God of Evil) has vanquished all the other Egyptian Gods who opposed him and trapped their essences in Canopic Jars featuring lids that match their visage in life.

Seker (God of Light), Ra (Sun God), Ptah (Creator of the Universe), Isis (Goddess of Fertility & Magic), Bast (Cat Goddess) and Bes (God of Luck) are all included and resting at the foot of Set.

Jeff really went over and above on this piece, hand lettering the hieroglyphic markings on each jar and creating an intricate and highly detailed background of wall drawings and symbols. Extremely large in size (14"x18") Jeff has created something truly special and worthy of the D&D pantheon he made famous.

I've mocked the drawing up as it might have looked as a Module cover back in the early 80's. Thanks to Jeff Dee who is available for commission work and is a joy to work with, he finished on time, on budget and made the entire experience one I'd do all over again in a heartbeat.
