DescriptionWhen it rains, it pours! I had been looking for a Hewlett Tank Girl page for a looooong time. There have been very few that have shown up in the past decade. Earlier in the year I got one from an Italian friend who had just upgraded his Tank Girl page. I was happy about that early page from Deadline #25 but then I got offered another page from this earlier issue of Deadline #4. Then I got offered a third page and so made a brief attempt to sell my first page. That offer was later taken off the table after the last Heritage posted strong sales on the lesser Hewlett Tank Girl and Jet Girl art they had offered up. So, I will have these 2 Tank Girl pages and that is more than enough.Deadline Magazine #4 Feb 1989. This is the 24th page of Tank Girl ever as the early Deadline stories were short. The Rocket Boob imagery became a recurrent and iconic theme for Tank Girl and this is the first time they were used. So much energy and hunger in the art and style of the early days of Hewlett's art. Tank Girl went on to be a cultural icon, a symbol for rebellion, girl power and spawned a movie with a bad ass soundtrack. I had always wondered what had happened to Hewlett and this art. For me, he seemed to just have faded away. This is of course not true and I had been clueless of what an artistic and financial success he had become. I knew of the UK band Gorillaz for year but didn't realize it was Hewlett! In addition to being a rock star he wisely invested money in companies and it is my understanding that Hewlett is worth 100's of millions and perhaps among the most successful comic creators ever. There have been rumors on the internet (so they must be true) that Hewlett might be Banksy, the unidentified street artist. I doubt it but the theories are interesting and there is certainly a connection between Banksy and Hewlett. So perhaps the lack of Tank Girl pages out there is a reflection of the fact that Hewlett didn't need to part with many and didn't or there are Gorillaz fans out there collecting the art too or perhaps that Tank Girl fans are that passionate about their art that they won't part with it. Perhaps I have 2 original Banksys:) Social/Sharing |

Okay this calls for an investigative documentary. (Cool page; it’s funny how these pages keep popping up for you.)

I think I have seen this page before. And I think I know the whole story about its purchase! And I wish it was into my house!
